Four in 10 Filipinos support the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from December 12 to 18, 2024. The survey revealed that 41% of respondents agree with the impeachment complaints filed in the House of Representatives, with most supporters coming from Luzon, particularly Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, 35% oppose the move, with the majority of dissenters residing in Duterte’s stronghold, Mindanao.
The complaints against Duterte stem from allegations of constitutional violations and abuse of power. Despite the controversy, Duterte remains defiant, stating that she is ready to face the impeachment process, asserting she has committed no wrongdoing.
The impeachment complaints have sparked debates across the nation, with critics accusing Duterte of using her position for personal gain, while supporters argue that the accusations are politically motivated.
As public sentiment remains divided, the survey underscores the growing political polarization in the Philippines, particularly as the nation inches closer to the 2025 elections.
