2 killed, 2 hurt in Cotabato City SUV ambush

Two people were killed and two others injured after gunmen opened fire on a sports utility vehicle in Cotabato City on Tuesday morning, September 16.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. in Poblacion 5, Cotabato City, according to a report from the Cotabato City Police Station.

Authorities confirmed that one of the fatalities was the husband of the barangay captain in the area. He died instantly after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. A tricycle driver who was passing through the area was also killed after being hit during the ambush.

Two more individuals were wounded in the shooting and were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. Police have not yet released their identities.

Investigators said the attackers were on three motorcycles. They fled quickly after unleashing heavy gunfire on the SUV.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered at least 50 shell casings from the scene. Police said the bullets came from .45 caliber and 9mm pistols, suggesting that several firearms were used in the attack.

Authorities launched a full investigation to identify the suspects and determine the motive. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday afternoon.
