2 cops killed by lightning strike

Two police officers were killed after being struck by lightning inside their headquarters in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on Wednesday night, according to the Police Regional Office MIMAROPA.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. in the parking area of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4B Headquarters while heavy rain was pouring.

Initial investigation revealed that the two patrolmen were parking their motorcycles when a series of lightning strikes suddenly hit the area. A fellow officer conducting a routine roving inspection later found them lying motionless on the ground.

The officer immediately sought assistance from other personnel, and both victims were administered CPR. They were rushed to Mindoro Medical Center but were declared dead on arrival.

Authorities confirmed that the two victims held the rank of Patrolman.

Police have not yet released the names of the officers pending notification of their families.
