VP Sara Urges Families to Strengthen Care for the Environment

Vice President Sara Duterte called on Filipino families to teach children the importance of caring for the environment.

The appeal comes in line with the observance of Global Warming and Climate Consciousness Week.

In her video message, VP Sara emphasized that the Philippines contributes to global emissions. Because of this, she said people must recognize that climate change affects farmlands, fishing waters, homes, and the future that will be passed on to children.

She added that climate change–related calamities continue to test the resilience and preparedness of families, communities, and the nation.

Duterte stressed that every decision people make can either worsen the challenges brought by climate change or help them adapt, mitigate, and prepare for disasters.

In closing, she urged local government units to prioritize climate preparedness and adaptation in development planning. This includes the preservation and rehabilitation of the country’s remaining forests, mangroves, rivers, and seas.
