Over 1,000 individuals from various sectors have expressed support for three impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
During a meeting called by the Makabayan Bloc in Congress on Thursday, it was revealed that 111 signatories have already endorsed the complaints. However, only six lawmakers have so far backed the impeachment bids.
Complainants remain undeterred by the challenges of advancing their case. They emphasized their determination to refile the complaints in the 20th Congress if necessary.
Critics argue the timing of the impeachment complaints is politically motivated, while proponents insist they are holding the Vice President accountable for alleged actions detrimental to the nation.
The complainants stressed that they will not let 2025 pass without ensuring the impeachment process gains traction. However, no agreements have yet been reached on common grounds for the complaints.
The controversy has sparked debate, with some lawmakers questioning the feasibility of the effort given the current political dynamics in Congress. Despite the odds, supporters of the complaints believe public backing will pressure legislators to act.
Vice President Duterte has yet to issue an official statement regarding the complaints.
