Teacher shot dead by husband inside Leyte classroom

A 39-year-old teacher was shot dead by her husband inside Abanga Elementary School in Barangay Abanga, Matalom, Leyte, late Monday morning, October 22, 2025.

Police said the suspect, 40, entered the classroom and opened fire at his wife around 11 a.m. The victim reportedly cried for help from her colleagues before collapsing.

After the shooting, the suspect fled in a white minivan toward the Matalom town proper. Authorities quickly launched a hot pursuit operation to capture him.

However, police later confirmed that the suspect was found lifeless, though details about his death were not immediately disclosed.

Investigators are now conducting an in-depth probe to determine what led to the fatal attack. Officials have yet to confirm whether domestic problems or other personal issues were involved.
