A 35-year-old man was killed while his mother was wounded in a shooting allegedly linked to a land dispute in Barangay Tamugan, Marilog District, Davao City on March 26, police said.
Authorities identified the fatality as Jeric Librea, who died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the forehead. His mother, Jennifer Librea, survived but remained under medical treatment after suffering gunshot wounds to her leg and abdomen.
According to a report from the Marilog Police Station, Jennifer told investigators that she and her son were walking home when two men suddenly appeared and opened fire multiple times.
Jennifer was able to identify the suspects as Lito Gallego, who was allegedly the gunman, and Jay-R Gallego, who was reportedly with him during the attack. Both suspects were identified as relatives of the victims.
Police conducted a follow-up operation that led to the arrest of Jay-R Gallego. However, Lito Gallego remains at large and is currently the subject of a police manhunt.
Investigators said the shooting was allegedly triggered by a dispute over land ownership. Authorities continue to gather evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have filed charges of murder and frustrated murder against the fleeing suspect.
Authorities urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of the remaining suspect to immediately report to the nearest police station as efforts to locate him continue.
