A horrifying crash in Malasila, Makilala, Cotabato, left seven people dead and six others hospitalized after a 10-wheeler truck plowed through a house and several vehicles.
Police reports indicate the truck’s brakes failed while descending a steep road. The runaway vehicle struck a multicab, a motorcycle, and eight other vehicles before crashing into a roadside house, according to the Makilala Municipal Police Station.
The truck driver, Leopoldo Ibañez, was among the fatalities. Also killed were Joel and Christina Pamplona, their 5-year-old son Jeremiah, and three others: Jeralyn Bangcot, Benjamin Ganub, and Carlo De Jucos.
The injured victims are being treated at a local hospital. Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash, including the vehicle’s maintenance history and compliance with road safety standards.
The incident has sparked outrage and calls for stricter enforcement of truck safety regulations in the region. Residents of Malasila expressed concern over the frequent accidents along the highway, urging local officials to implement preventive measures to avoid further tragedies.
