Government forces recovered multiple high-powered firearms and other equipment after a series of clashes with communist rebels in Pinukpuk, Kalinga, where one New People’s Army member was killed and two soldiers were wounded.
The first encounter occurred on November 22 in Barangay Bayao, followed by several more operations led by the 103rd Infantry “Mabalasik” Battalion together with reinforcing units under the 503rd Infantry Brigade and the PNP Kalinga. Troops launched a focused operation after receiving reports of enemy movement, resulting in a brief firefight in Barangay Allaguia that left one rebel dead.
Recovered items included an M16 rifle, R4 rifle, M203 grenade launcher, two M653 rifles, a hand grenade, magazines, ammunition, CPP-NPA documents, backpacks, jungle packs, medical supplies, kitchen utensils, and an NPA flag. According to Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Jimrhic Obias, two wounded soldiers are now in stable condition. The rebel fatality was identified as Victor Madalang Daligdig of Sitio Anunang, Liwan West in Rizal, Kalinga.
Governor James Edduba ordered the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to coordinate closely with the Pinukpuk local government and concerned barangays. He directed agencies to prepare food, medicine, ambulances, and other support for communities affected by the clashes.
Edduba also ensured assistance for the family of the slain rebel, saying he remains a resident of Kalinga despite his involvement in the armed group. Provincial personnel helped transport the remains from Funeraria Carbonel back to Sitio Anunang for burial.
Officials reiterated that the recovered firearms and equipment are undergoing documentation to support intelligence efforts across Kalinga and nearby provinces. Security forces said operations would continue to prevent further movement of armed groups in remote areas.
