Radio commentator killed in BARMM shooting

A radio commentator and barangay dispute resolution officer was shot dead Thursday evening in Barangay Fort Pikit, Malidegao Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The victim was identified as Nestor “Titing” Micator, a married resident who was serving as a member of the Lupon Tagapamayapa of Barangay Fort Pikit. He was also working as a radio commentator for a station in Pikit, North Cotabato.

Authorities said the shooting occurred at around 6:40 p.m. on May 21 in Sitio Proper 1, Barangay Fort Pikit.

Initial reports showed that Micator was riding a motorcycle with his wife as a passenger when unidentified gunmen attacked them. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head and died instantly.

His wife, who was riding behind him during the attack, survived without injury.

Barangay Fort Pikit Chairman Jay R. Buda described Micator as a kind individual and said this was one reason he was appointed as a member of the barangay lupon.

Separate reports identified Micator as a former volunteer of a radio station in Kidapawan during the recent election period. He was reportedly working as an anchorman and reporter for a radio station in Pikit at the time of the incident.

Police investigators from the Malidegao Municipal Police Station have launched an investigation to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the killing.

As the investigation continues, relatives of the victim have called for justice and urged authorities to bring those responsible to account.
