Health reform advocate Dr. Tony Leachon urged the public to maintain cleanliness and proper hygiene amid global monitoring of the hantavirus threat.
In an interview, Leachon said the disease can be contained through good hygiene practices and proper precautions among crew members and travelers.
He added that preventive education remains important, especially for people to better understand how the virus spreads in order to avoid infection.
The health advocate also believes that hantavirus is unlikely to lead to another global pandemic.
According to him, the virus does not have the capability to trigger a pandemic based on advisories from the World Health Organization.
Despite this, Leachon stressed that the public should remain vigilant against emerging diseases that could affect healthcare systems and Filipinos working or living abroad.
