Nilagdaan na ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang panukala na magbibigay ng fix term sa mga key officers ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at tataasan ang mandatory retirement age ng mga heneral at flag officers.
Sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 11706, na ang mga posisyon sa AFP ay may fixed tour of duty na tatlong taon, na kinabibilangan ng Chief of Staff; Vice Chief of Staff; Deputy Chief of Staff; Commanding General, Philippine Army; Commanding General, Philippine Air Force; Flag Officer in Command; Philippine Navy; Unified Command Commanders at Inspector General.
Samantala, ang general/flag officer na may proven competence at academic excellence, ay itatalaga bilang Superintendent sa Philippine Military Academy, at exempted mula sa pag-aplay ng maximum tenure-in-grade.
Ang PMA Superintendent ay kailangang may ranggo na Lieutenant General/Vice Admiral at bibigyan ng tour of duty na apat na taon, maliban kung ite-terminate ng mas mataas na authority.
Ang PMA Superintendent ay hindi eligible sa kahit anung AFP position, maliban para sa Chief of Staff, at kailangang mandatorily retired matapos ang fixed tour of duty o matapos matanggal mula sa office.
