A pregnant woman and her sister were killed in a shooting inside their apartment in Barangay Gulod, Novaliches, late Wednesday, police said.
The victims, identified only as a 36-year-old expectant mother and her 34-year-old sister, were inside their rented unit on Genoveva Street when two unidentified gunmen entered and opened fire.
A third person, a 33-year-old friend, was also inside the apartment at the time of the attack. He was wounded but survived.
Investigators said the suspects were wearing helmets and jackets when they barged into the unit and shot the victims multiple times. The motive for the killing has not been determined.
Another sibling of the two women arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting but found the victims already lifeless.
Authorities confirmed that police teams are now conducting follow-up investigations and backtracking operations to trace the movements of the suspects. Law enforcement officials said they are gathering witness accounts and reviewing possible security camera footage in the area to help identify the gunmen.
The deaths have drawn attention to the continuing spate of violent incidents in Metro Manila, where law enforcement faces pressure to address gun-related crimes.
Police have yet to release further details about the victims’ identities or the status of the wounded friend, as the investigation remains ongoing.
