Reality TV star Porsha Williams, best known for her time on Real Housewives of Atlanta, is facing a federal lawsuit filed by her estranged husband, Simon Guobadia. The lawsuit, filed on November 21, accuses Williams of defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The legal battle adds another chapter to their highly publicized split earlier this year.
Simon Guobadia Claims Defamatory Social Media Posts
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Guobadia alleges that Williams used her social media platform to spread harmful and false claims about him. He cites a series of posts made on Instagram in July, during the couple’s separation, that he claims implied he suffers from erectile dysfunction (ED).
“These posts were intentionally crafted to imply that [Simon] suffers from this condition, casting him in a negative and humiliating light,” the lawsuit reads. Guobadia’s lawyer emphasized that the posts included the hashtag #MensHealthAwareness, which initially gave them an air of legitimacy but were perceived as targeting Simon due to their timing and context.
The posts, widely picked up by media outlets, allegedly caused significant harm to Guobadia’s reputation, both personally and professionally. His lawyer stated, “[Porsha’s] postings were presented in a factual manner, implying a specific medical diagnosis of ED regarding [Simon], and were clearly intended to cast [Simon] in a negative and humiliating light.”
Allegations of Emotional Distress and Reputation Damage
The lawsuit further accuses Williams of knowingly making false statements or acting with reckless disregard for the truth. Simon’s legal team argued that her actions were extreme and outrageous, leading to severe emotional distress and reputational harm. “The allegations targeted [Simon’s] physical and emotional integrity and struck at the core of his reputation as a respected entrepreneur and philanthropist,” the suit states.
Guobadia also claimed the public perception of Williams as a former spouse with insider knowledge gave her statements added weight, enhancing their potential to be believed. “[Porsha’s] statements were false; [Simon] does not have ED and has never suffered from or been diagnosed with this condition,” the lawsuit asserts.
Legal and Financial Implications
Simon is seeking unspecified damages for what he describes as irreparable harm to his reputation and emotional well-being. The lawsuit contends that Williams’ public allegations were not only defamatory but also amounted to defamation per se, as the nature of the statements was inherently damaging.
The legal battle comes as the couple’s divorce proceedings continue, with Williams previously filing for divorce earlier this year and requesting enforcement of their prenuptial agreement. The separation, along with this lawsuit, has further strained their relationship and drawn significant public scrutiny.
While Williams has yet to respond publicly to the lawsuit, the case underscores the complexities of public figures navigating personal disputes under the media spotlight.
