Police are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run incident that injured a child after a vehicle crashed into a traffic sign where two children were sitting early Thursday, July 23, in Lapu-Lapu City. Authorities continue to review CCTV footage and gather information to identify and locate the driver, who remains at large.
The incident was captured on closed-circuit television, showing two children sitting on opposite sides of a traffic sign moments before a vehicle struck the structure.
One child managed to jump to safety, while the other was thrown by the impact.
The injured child was rushed to a hospital and is recovering.
Lapu-Lapu City Lone District Rep. Junard “Ahong” Chan said the road where the crash occurred is a one-way route leading to Marigondon, while the opposite lane is designated as a no-entry lane.
Authorities are investigating whether the driver entered the prohibited lane before the collision. CCTV footage is among the pieces of evidence being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The two children are among six siblings. According to information released by local officials, their mother had left the family, leaving their father, an e-bike driver, to care for them.
Chan appealed to the public to help identify the driver, urging anyone with information about the vehicle or the person behind the wheel to immediately coordinate with law enforcement authorities.
As of the latest update, police had not located the driver, and the investigation remains ongoing.
