Personal grudge, work dispute eyed as motives in ex-cop’s killing in Negros

Investigators are looking into a personal grudge and a work-related dispute as possible motives behind the fatal shooting of former police officer Renaldo Bernil in Purok Michelle, Barangay Dulao, Bago City, on the morning of February 27, 2025.

Bago City Police Chief, Police Lieutenant Colonel Jay Malong, said Bernil got involved in a conflict at the poultry farm where he worked after two business partners had a falling-out. He took sides, which may have put him in danger.

Police also examine Bernil’s alleged involvement in illegal drug activities. Reports suggest that when he served as a police officer, he engaged with groups in the drug trade.
