A Philippine Airlines (PAL) Express flight from Cebu skidded the runway during landing at Bacolod-Silay Airport early Friday morning, December 27, 2024, due to intense rainfall that affected plane’s braking conditions.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed that PAL Express flight 2P-2285, operated by a De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft (registration RP-C5911), struggled to stop after touching down on Runway 03 at 5:32 a.m. The aircraft eventually came to a halt on the taxiway.
CAAP said, “All passengers and crew were safe and unharmed.”
Airport authorities said that the heavy downpour disrupted airport operations, causing the cancellation of flight 2P-2286 (Bacolod to Cebu) and two Cebgo flights from Cebu.
However, the airport quickly restored normal operations. Affected passengers received rebooking options or alternative arrangements.
CAAP has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring aviation safety.
