Over ₱8.6M in smuggled cigarettes seized in Davao City raid; pistol and shabu also found

Authorities seized over ₱8.6 million worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes, suspected shabu, and a firearm during a police operation in Barangay Ilang, Davao City on Thursday evening, July 3.

The operation took place at around 7:30 p.m. in Cabanes Road, following an intelligence tip from the Naval Intelligence and Security Group–Eastern Mindanao (NISG-EM) about suspicious boxes near a warehouse.

At the scene, Sasa Police Station discovered 431 master cases of alleged smuggled cigarettes with an estimated market value of ₱8,620,000. The items were found in front of a warehouse believed to be linked to 26-year-old suspect Jumar, a resident of the same area.

Jumar reportedly fled upon noticing the arrival of law enforcers, leaving behind a black sling bag. Recovered inside were a loaded Armscor caliber .45 pistol and two heat-sealed sachets containing suspected shabu valued at ₱5,000.

The seized cigarettes were inventoried and turned over to the Bureau of Customs–Port of Davao. The firearm and suspected drugs will undergo forensic examination at the Regional Forensic Unit 11.

Authorities are preparing criminal charges against the suspect, who remains at large.
