Ormoc City athletes who dominated the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) 2025 games are reaping the rewards of their victories. Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez announced a massive P15 million cash incentive for the medalists during a homecoming ceremony held on March 10.
Ormoc City’s Commitment to Athletic Excellence
During the celebration, Mayor Torres-Gomez emphasized that Ormoc’s commitment to sports development extends beyond verbal praise. She stated that rewarding athletes financially has been a tradition since the tenure of her husband, Rep. Richard Gomez, underscoring the city’s dedication to fostering excellence in sports.
She highlighted that the city government ensures that incentives are included in the budget, with approval from the Sangguniang Panlungsod. This initiative is part of a long-term vision to support local athletes and inspire future generations to pursue excellence in regional and national competitions.
“Every glory is celebrated not just by praise, but kung kaya sa budget, always with financial incentives, so this was started from the time pa ni Cong. Richard and that’s why I say you have to thank the SP [Sangguniang Panlungsod] because sila ang mag approve sa budget,” said Mayor Torres-Gomez.
The mayor expressed her gratitude to the entire Ormoc delegation for bringing honor to the city, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to fostering athletic excellence.
“Thank you for giving us reason for that #ShineOrmoc to not just be a dream or a wish, but actually a reality,” she went on.
P15 Million Incentives Ignite Pride Among Ormocano Athletes
Ormoc City’s outstanding performance at EVRAA 2025 brought immense pride to the community. Mayor Torres-Gomez extended her gratitude to the entire delegation, acknowledging their hard work and dedication in bringing honor to the city.
The cash incentive is expected to provide additional motivation for Ormocanon athletes to strive for greater achievements in future competitions. The support from the local government, coupled with continuous improvements in sports programs and facilities, has solidified Ormoc City as a powerhouse in regional athletics.
With the financial backing and encouragement from the city, Ormoc’s young athletes are poised to make an even greater impact on the national stage in the years to come.
Cash Incentives for EVRAA Medalists
As per Ormoc City Ordinance No. 64, also known as the Athletics Incentives Ordinance, EVRAA 2025 medalists will receive the following rewards:
INDIVIDUAL EVENTS:
🥇 Gold Medal — ₱5,000.00
🥈 Silver Medal — ₱3,000.00
🥉 Bronze Medal — ₱2,000.00
TEAM EVENTS:
🥇 Gold Medal — ₱30,000.00
🥈 Silver Medal — ₱20,000.00
🥉 Bronze Medal — ₱10,000.00
Athletes who secured medals in the Paragames and Demonstration Sports will also receive financial incentives, further encouraging inclusivity and excellence in sports.
