One-year-old child dies after motorcycle collides with dump truck

One-year-old Bell Racal dies after a dump truck runs over her in Sitio Lasco, Barangay Lagtang, Monday afternoon, March 2, 2026.

Her father, Lelan Remejio, 51, rides a Suzuki motorcycle while her mother, Jocelyn Racal, 45, holds the child as they travel home from Tabunok.

The family was reportedly returning home from Tabunok, Talisay City when the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m.

According to the Talisay City Police Station, the dump truck driven by Rolando Tapdasan, 52, had just pulled out from a parked position when he allegedly failed to see the motorcycle passing alongside.

The motorcycle slid while braking on a curved and downhill section of the road, causing the child to slip from her mother’s arms and fall near the rear wheels of the truck.

Emergency responders pronounce the child dead at the scene, while her parents escape the accident unharmed.

Joy Tumulak, president of CT-TODA, said they received the report around 5:00 p.m. and immediately responded. He noted that this is the second accident involving a child in the area, the first occurring two years ago.

Tumulak reminded parents that existing laws prohibit carrying young children on motorcycles and emphasized prioritizing the safety of infants while traveling.

Police arrest the dump truck driver following the accident. He told authorities he did not see the motorcycle approaching and sustained only minor scratches.

Tumulak said the driver and the family will reach a settlement, with the family dropping charges if he covers the funeral expenses.
