A motorcyclist was killed after hanging telecommunication wires were accidentally snagged by a passing truck, causing cables and power poles to collapse onto the road in Barangay San Jose, Catmon, Cebu, police said.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22.
Authorities identified the victim as Hendry, 25, a resident of Bogo City.
Based on the initial police investigation, the truck was traveling southbound when it accidentally struck telecommunication wires that were hanging low and attached between two electric posts.
Police said the impact caused the cables to fall onto the roadway, along with the two power poles.
The falling wires and posts struck Hendry, who was riding a motorcycle at the time. Another rider, identified as Edgar, was also hit during the incident.
Hendry was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival, authorities said.
No additional details were immediately released about the condition of the second rider.
The incident raised concerns over the dangers posed by low-hanging wires along public roads, particularly in areas with frequent vehicle traffic.
Police said an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the wires being left hanging and to establish accountability.
Authorities have not yet released information on whether charges may be filed or if the truck driver will face liability.
Officials continue to gather evidence and statements as part of the inquiry.
The case remains under review as investigators work to clarify how the accident occurred and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
