Motorcycle and pickup Collide; working student killed

A 26-year-old working student died after her motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Tiangge Road, Barangay Looc, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu – around 5 a.m. on Saturday, March 22.

The victim, identified as Ruthlyn Libradilla, was a graduating criminology student and a resident of Soong, Barangay Mactan. She worked as a service crew member at a fast-food chain to support her education.

Her passenger, 21-year-old Sofie, also a working student at the same fast-food restaurant, remains hospitalized with injuries.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Christian Torres, spokesperson for the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when the accident occurred.

The victims were reportedly on their way to work when the pickup truck, allegedly driven by a man who had been drinking, crashed into them.

Authorities have filed charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property, along with violations of Republic Act 10586, the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, against the pickup driver.

In an interview with Brigada News FM Cebu, Emelyn Libradilla, the victim’s mother, described Ruthlyn as a kind and hardworking daughter who had big dreams for their family.
