MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan emphasized that the safety of passengers and cargo is the responsibility of shipping companies and vessel crew.
Because of this, continuous compliance with MARINA regulations is expected to ensure responsible operations in the maritime transportation sector.
According to Malaluan, the agency conducts annual, in-depth inspections of vessels to ensure consistent adherence to maritime safety standards.
MARINA stressed that inspections are not merely a temporary compliance activity.
Instead, these are part of the agency’s broader goal of ensuring that maritime safety is consistently practiced and valued by all shipping operators and crew at all times of the year.
It can be recalled that in recent months, several maritime accidents have been reported, resulting in the loss of lives.
