Man stabbed during zumba session in Ormoc, police cite jealousy as motive

A Sunday evening Zumba session at a public plaza in Ormoc City ended in violence when a man was stabbed in front of fellow dancers, police said.

The victim, identified as Ruel, was participating in the group exercise on August 17 when he was suddenly attacked. Authorities named the suspect only as “Fredo,” a retired member of the now-defunct Philippine Constabulary.

Witnesses told investigators that the suspect approached the victim without warning and stabbed him during the lively session. Police said bystanders rushed Ruel to a nearby hospital, where he remains under medical care.

Ormoc City Police Station officers launched a hot pursuit operation shortly after the incident and arrested the suspect within hours. He is now being held at Police Station 1 pending further investigation.

Initial findings suggest jealousy as the motive behind the attack. Investigators said the suspect allegedly suspected an affair between his wife and the victim. Authorities have not yet confirmed the claim, stressing that the investigation remains ongoing.
