A 37-year-old man was killed after being shot multiple times inside his own house in Barangay Banilad, Bacong, Negros Oriental on Sunday evening, April 12, 2026.
The victim was identified only by the alias “Berto,” who sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
According to the initial investigation conducted by the Bacong Municipal Police Station, several residents reported hearing about eight gunshots coming from the victim’s residence.
Shortly after the gunfire, witnesses reportedly saw two unidentified men wearing bonnets quickly fleeing from the victim’s house.
Responding authorities secured the area and conducted a follow-up investigation at the crime scene.
Personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered several pieces of evidence during the investigation. Authorities reported recovering three spent shell casings from a caliber .45 firearm and three spent shell casings from a caliber 9mm firearm at the scene.
Police said the suspects remain unidentified as of this time.
Authorities are continuing pursuit operations to locate and arrest the individuals believed to be responsible for the shooting.
Investigators are also working to determine the possible motive behind the killing.
Police said the case remains under active investigation as they gather more evidence and interview potential witnesses who may provide additional information about the incident.
Authorities urged anyone with relevant information that could help identify the suspects or clarify the circumstances surrounding the shooting to coordinate with local police as the investigation progresses.
