Man hacked dead over goat dispute in Cebu

A long-standing feud over a goat ended in a gruesome killing Sunday night in Barangay Tomonoy, Moalboal, Cebu.

A 34-year-old man, identified only as “Berto,” was declared dead on the spot after being hacked by his neighbor around 6:30 p.m. on June 29.

The suspect, known as “Asyo,” a 63-year-old fisherman, allegedly attacked Berto with a bladed weapon locally known as a pinute. Police said the victim’s two hands were severed, and he also suffered a fatal wound to the neck.

On the day of the killing, Berto was reportedly drunk and shouted at Asyo outside his home. The suspect, allegedly fed up with the harassment, retaliated violently.

After the incident, Asyo voluntarily surrendered to the barangay captain and is now under the custody of the Moalboal Police Station.

Authorities continue to investigate the case.
