Malacañang questioned Vice President Sara Duterte’s state of mind after she called for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to resign.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro suggested that Duterte’s statement may have been influenced by lack of sleep and anxiety. She also said Duterte appeared to have a clear plan to assume the presidency.
Castro denied Duterte’s allegation that Marcos uses illegal drugs. She countered by citing past statements from Duterte’s father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, regarding his own marijuana use and fentanyl abuse.
The Palace also responded to Duterte’s corruption allegations against Marcos by referring to previous statements made by her father concerning alleged theft from government funds.
The exchange highlights the continuing political tension between the Marcos administration and the Duterte camp, with both sides trading serious accusations.
Duterte’s call for Marcos to step down has further intensified the public confrontation between the country’s top elected officials, while Malacañang continues to reject the allegations directed at the president.
