LGBTQ+ member killed, businesswoman injured in Cotabato City shooting

A 27-year-old LGBTQ+ member was killed, while a female businesswoman was injured after motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire on them along Quezon Avenue, Cotabato City, on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Cotabato City Police Office Station 1, the fatality was identified as Almira Hamsa Usman, a resident of Bagua 2. Usman, who was riding a scooter with Jane Ersando Palileo, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Palileo, a married businesswoman from Rosary Heights 12, sustained injuries.

Police investigations revealed that the victims were traveling along the road at around 3:40 p.m. when two unidentified suspects on a motorcycle approached them and opened fire using an unidentified firearm. The assailants immediately fled the scene after the attack.

Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the shooting and working to identify the suspects.
