Sen. Loren Legarda has denied all allegations made against her by Ombudsman Crispin “Boying” Remulla regarding the solar project involving her son, Rep. Leandro Leviste.
In a previous press statement, the Office of the Ombudsman said its investigators found an alleged conspiracy involving Legarda, Leviste, and former Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi to obtain exclusive government rights over solar energy resources.
Remulla also alleged that Leviste, who was 21 years old at the time, could not have secured an exclusive franchise without the assistance of his mother, who then served as chair of the Senate Committee on Finance.
Responding to the allegations, Legarda firmly rejected the claims.
She said that since entering public service in 1998, she has upheld her integrity and remained committed to honest public service.
Legarda described the allegations as an unjust attempt to tarnish her name and reputation.
The senator also said that, as of now, she has not received any official communication from the Office of the Ombudsman regarding the allegations.
Despite this, she said she is prepared to present the truth once the appropriate proceedings begin.
Legarda also called on the public to carefully examine the timing and context surrounding the release of the allegations.
She did not provide additional details beyond her statement, and no further comment from the Office of the Ombudsman was included in the information released.
The allegations stem from the Ombudsman’s findings involving the solar project associated with Leviste and the alleged acquisition of exclusive government rights to solar energy resources.
