Joe Jonas friend zones Kelly Clarkson after flirty talk show moment, sources say she misread the signs in big way

A flirty exchange on The Kelly Clarkson Show sparked buzz about a potential romance between Kelly Clarkson and Joe Jonas—but insiders say it’s all one-sided.

According to sources who spoke to GLOBE Magazine, the American Idol alum was smitten with the younger Jonas Brother after he appeared on her daytime show to promote his upcoming tour. Kelly, 43, believed their friendly banter and post-show backstage chat hinted at romantic chemistry.

She reportedly told friends that Joe, 35, checked all the boxes—handsome, intelligent, a devoted dad, and kind. Sources claim Kelly felt they shared a vibe and even entertained the idea of something more developing.

But Joe apparently doesn’t feel the same.

Insiders close to the “Sucker” singer say he thinks Kelly is sweet and talented, but she’s simply not his type. One source explained that while Joe enjoyed the interview and thought Kelly was charming, he prefers women with a wilder edge and sees her more as a friend.

Kelly misreads the moment

While the on-air chemistry may have looked promising, Joe allegedly swiped left on the idea of romance. Friends say he was just being polite when he gave Kelly his number after the show.

Despite her glowing transformation since her 2022 divorce from Brandon Blackstock, sources say Kelly has struggled with self-esteem. She’s been open about rebuilding her confidence and embracing single life, but this brush-off reportedly stings.

“She’s been doing great on the outside, but it’s still hard for her,” a source said. “She thought there might be a spark with Joe and this will be tough to swallow.”

Jonas focused on freedom and fun

Meanwhile, Joe seems to be enjoying bachelor life. Since his 2023 split from actress Sophie Turner, with whom he shares two daughters, the pop star has stayed clear of serious relationships.

Now preparing for a global tour, Joe is reportedly looking forward to meeting new people, not settling down.

“He’s about to go on tour and wants to enjoy himself,” a source shared. “There’s no bad blood with Kelly—he’s just not feeling that kind of connection.”

Though Clarkson may have hoped for more, those close to Jonas say he doesn’t want to lead anyone on.

“He respects Kelly, but he’s not going to pretend something’s there when it’s not,” the insider added.

For now, it looks like Clarkson will have to keep looking. As charming as the talk show moment may have seemed, the romance rumor stops there.
