A 61-year-old grandmother died after being hit by a multicab on Monday night, April 13, in Sitio Atabay, Barangay Macaas, Catmon, Cebu.
The victim was identified as alias “Nisa,” a resident of the same barangay.
According to the initial investigation conducted by the Catmon Municipal Police Station, the victim suddenly crossed the road and was struck by a multicab driven by a 27-year-old man who is a resident of Danao City.
The victim sustained severe injuries to her body and was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. However, she was declared dead on arrival by attending medical personnel.
Meanwhile, a report from the Cebu People’s Action Center of Cebu Province indicated that the victim was reportedly chasing her grandchild who had also suddenly crossed the road.
Authorities said the victim attempted to catch up with her grandchild in an effort to assist the child, but was struck by an approaching vehicle during the incident.
Police have documented the circumstances surrounding the crash as part of their ongoing investigation.
The driver involved in the incident was identified as a resident of Danao City, while authorities continue to assess the details related to the accident.
Investigators are coordinating with relevant offices and reviewing reports to determine the full sequence of events leading to the fatal collision.
The case remains under review as authorities gather further information related to the incident and confirm witness accounts describing the moments before the grandmother was struck by the multicab.
