Grade 7 student drowns at Davao de Oro resort after skipping class

A Grade 7 student died after drowning in a resort swimming pool in Barangay Elizalde, Maco, Davao de Oro on Monday, July 21.

According to police, the incident occurred after the student decided not to return to school and instead went to a nearby inland resort to swim.

Witnesses said the student was seen enjoying the water before they noticed he had suddenly disappeared. Concerned resort-goers immediately rushed to help upon realizing he had not resurfaced.

Efforts were made to revive the student, but he was pronounced dead shortly after rescue attempts.

Authorities are now urging parents to consistently monitor their children’s whereabouts and ensure they are attending school, to prevent similar incidents.

Investigators have not reported foul play, and the case is being treated as an accidental drowning.
