Nineteen individuals were swept away by a sudden flash flood at the Mini Asik-Asik Falls in Talomo River, Barangay Carmen, Baguio District, on Sunday, September 14.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) confirmed the incident occurred around 12:00 noon. Identified victims were Mark Anthony Borinaga, Jeffrey Manawatan, Charise Dawn Dalanon, and minors Akisha and Daniella, all residents of Buhangin, Davao City. Two other individuals remain missing as of press time.
On the Calinan side of the falls, 12 individuals were rescued. They were identified as Brent Paclosuna, Mark Glen Serad, Emart Rufibado, Romeo Abal, John Paul Dugaduga, Randy Sarabia, Klemer James Palermo, Johnel Odchimar, Andrei Taghoy, Joevinal Bedolido, Reymond Potestas, and 11-year-old Kian from Agdao.
The rescue was carried out by the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), Philippine National Police Search and Rescue (PNP-SAR), and civilian volunteers.
A video of the trapped individuals circulated widely on social media, showing the sudden rise of water that swept the victims. The footage fueled public concern and drew calls for accountability in safety monitoring of the area.
Unverified reports on social media suggested casualties, but police have not confirmed any deaths.
Authorities continue search operations for the two missing victims.
