Fire in Maragusan destroys eight shops, causes ₱3-million damage

A devastating fire struck Gumamela Street in Poblacion, Maragusan, Davao de Oro, on Monday evening, October 20, 2025, causing an estimated ₱3 million in damages.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that the blaze damaged eight commercial establishments, completely destroying seven of them.

Fire Arson Investigator Jeric Felimon of BFP Maragusan said firefighters responded after the fire erupted around 6:30 p.m. and quickly spread through the buildings made of concrete and light materials.

Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and finally declared it under control at 9:10 p.m.

Authorities confirmed that the incident caused no casualties or injuries. However, several business owners suffered heavy losses as the blaze wiped out their stalls and merchandise.

Investigators are now looking into the possible cause of the fire, which remains undetermined as of press time.

The BFP reminded the public to practice fire safety, especially as the dry season continues to pose risks of accidental fires in business and residential areas.

Photos and videos shared by residents online showed the intensity of the flames and the swift response of firefighters as they battled the three-hour blaze in the town center.
