Four people were killed early Saturday morning after two vans collided on the Davao-Digos Road in Barangay Binugao, Toril, Davao City.
According to the Toril Police, the accident occurred when one of the drivers, identified as Kadaffy Salik of Kabacan, Cotabato, lost control of his vehicle and crossed into the opposite lane. Salik’s van then struck another van carrying passengers who were returning home from a beach outing in Samal, Davao del Norte.
Survivors of the crash recounted their terrifying ordeal. “We were just on our way home to Cotabato City when the van came out of nowhere,” one survivor said.
The victims who tragically lost their lives were identified as Remie Centena, Edna Centena, Mary Joy Abuda Lastimoso, and Sherlyn Altimo. All were passengers in the van driven by Omar Lastimoso, also from Cotabato City.
CCTV footage of the incident, now circulating online, captured the horrifying moment. The footage shows Salik’s van veering sharply into the oncoming lane before slamming into Lastimoso’s van.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. Initial reports suggest that Salik may have been speeding or experiencing mechanical issues, which caused him to lose control.
Two other individuals remain hospitalized as the investigation continues.
