Former Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has suggested that Vice President Sara Duterte could be charged with plunder while the impeachment trial against her is pending.
The case is related to the vice president’s spending of P125 million from confidential funds. Carpio said this could be achieved if the Senate does not request a special session to initiate the trial immediately.
He added that if Duterte is charged, it could lead to her disqualification from office, depending on the decision made by the executive branch.
The impeachment trial against Duterte remains pending in the Senate after the legislative body which will convene as an impeachment court adjourned session and scheduled to reopen in June 2 this year.
