A police officer was killed while another remains in critical condition after an ex-convict managed to shoot them inside the Carmona Police Station.
According to a report from the Carmona Component City Police, the incident occurred during an investigation involving a former inmate from Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm. The suspect, who had just been released on June 28 after serving time for trespassing, was brought to the station for questioning.
Despite being in handcuffs, the suspect reportedly managed to grab the firearm of one of the duty officers and opened fire, hitting two police personnel.
The station quickly descended into chaos, prompting other officers to respond. The suspect was shot during the commotion and was declared dead.
One of the injured officers died from gunshot wounds, while the second remains under close medical observation in critical condition.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims as of this writing.
The incident has raised concerns over procedures in handling recently released convicts and station security during custodial investigations.
A full investigation is now underway to determine how the suspect was able to gain access to the weapon and what protocols may have been breached.
