Elderly couple dies in Bacolod house fire

An elderly couple died after being trapped inside their burning home in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, early Monday morning, June 30.

The victims, identified only as alias Edi, 81, who was bedridden, and alias Eme, 80, were found lifeless following a house fire that broke out around 4 a.m.

According to Bacolod City Fire Superintendent Jenny Mae Masip in an interview with Brigada News FM Bacolod, Edi’s body was discovered beneath his hospital bed. Eme, meanwhile, was found in the dining area on the ground floor.

Authorities estimated the property damage to be worth around ₱3 million.

The Bureau of Fire Protection is still investigating the cause of the blaze.

FSupt. Masip emphasized the heightened risks that senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) face during emergencies, especially when they are alone at home.

She urged families to have emergency preparedness plans and consider the special needs of vulnerable household members in case of fire or similar incidents.
