Driver arrested for alleged sexual assault of a passenger

A taxi driver in Cebu City has been arrested following allegations of rape made by a passenger from the LGBTQIA+ community.

The incident reportedly occurred around 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Apas. The victim, identified only as “Marie,” told Brigada News FM Cebu that she hailed the cab near IT Park to head home to Barangay Guadalupe.

According to Marie, the driver began touching her thigh during the ride before stopping the vehicle in a secluded area in Sitio Sudlon. She alleged that the driver then forced her into lewd acts against her will.

Afterward, the driver dropped her off in Guadalupe, where she immediately sought help from neighbors. They quickly intercepted the taxi driver and brought him to the Mabolo Police Station.

The suspect has denied the accusations, claiming the encounter was consensual. Despite his apology, Marie’s father expressed outrage and confirmed their intent to pursue legal action.
