The Department of Tourism (DOT), in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), distributed Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) assistance to nearly 680 tourism workers in Masbate who were affected by Typhoon Opong.
The distribution was part of the latest rollout of the Bayanihan sa Bukas na May Pag-asa sa Turismo (BBMT) program, a joint initiative of the DSWD and DOT.
During the event in Masbate City, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco emphasized that the BBMT program serves as a reminder that the government is present not only in times of celebration but also in times of adversity.
The distribution was attended by other Cabinet members and local officials.
Secretary Frasco also highlighted that Masbate is home to many beautiful tourist destinations and expressed gratitude to tourism workers for their dedication, service, and contribution to the country’s tourism industry.
She further noted that the tourism sector continues to play a vital role in strengthening the Philippine economy.
