The local government of Dipaculao, Aurora has implemented a Temporary Closure Order against Hermanos Leisure and Farm Resort, the venue of the Ateneo de Manila University athletes’ team-building activity.
The order is connected to the deaths of student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili on June 8, 2026.
According to the local government, the closure order forms part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and enforce existing laws and ordinances governing tourism-related establishments and water-based activities.
In a statement, the local government unit (LGU) said Mayor Danilo Tolentino immediately directed a comprehensive inspection by a composite team composed of representatives from the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO), Municipal Tourism Office (MTO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Based on the inspection findings, the resort was found to have failed to comply with several key provisions and requirements under municipal ordinances enacted by the Sangguniang Bayan.
Meanwhile, a resort security guard confirmed that management had already received the temporary closure order from the LGU.
It can be recalled that the resort’s legal counsel, Attorney Reymund Martelino, previously defended the establishment, stating that house rules, safety guidelines, and warning infographics regarding sea conditions and waves were posted inside guest rooms as well as in other areas of the property.
