David Schwimmer is calling on Elon Musk to take action against Kanye West. The Friends star condemned West’s recent antisemitic remarks and urged the billionaire to remove the rapper from his social media platform, X.
Schwimmer, 58, took to Instagram on Saturday after West, now known as Ye, posted a series of inflammatory tweets targeting the Jewish community. In his post, Schwimmer argued that while it may not be possible to silence a “deranged bigot,” it is within Musk’s power to prevent West from spreading his rhetoric to millions.
Schwimmer Slams West’s Controversial Posts
West’s latest tirade included posts where he identified as a Nazi and claimed he would never apologize for his antisemitic statements. The rapper also wrote that Jewish people steal from others and that he loves Adolf Hitler.
Schwimmer highlighted West’s massive reach, pointing out that his 32.7 million followers on X are nearly double the global Jewish population. He warned that West’s influence could incite real-world violence against Jewish communities.
“I don’t know what’s worse,” Schwimmer stated, “the fact that he identifies as a Nazi or that there isn’t enough outrage to ban him from all social media.” He concluded his message by emphasizing that “silence is complicity,” urging action from both Musk and the public.
West’s History of Controversy and Social Media Bans
This is not the first time West has faced backlash for antisemitic remarks. In December 2022, he was banned from X after posting a swastika and making similar inflammatory comments. That incident led Adidas and several other companies to sever ties with him, costing him lucrative business deals.
West’s latest posts came just days after the 2025 Grammys, where he and his wife, Bianca Censori, made headlines for their red carpet appearance. Following the event, West took to social media, claiming he had “dominion” over his wife and dismissing feminism, further fueling criticism.
Despite his history of hate speech, Musk reinstated West’s X account in 2023, citing his commitment to free speech. However, Schwimmer and many others are now pressuring the tech mogul to reconsider, arguing that West’s rhetoric is too dangerous to ignore.
Growing Pressure for Musk to Take Action
As public outrage mounts, many are questioning Musk’s stance on moderating hate speech on X. Some users have echoed Schwimmer’s demand, calling for West’s permanent removal from the platform.
Meanwhile, West remains defiant, doubling down on his remarks and dismissing criticism. His posts have since been deleted, but the damage, many argue, has already been done.
With celebrities, activists, and social media users voicing their concerns, all eyes are now on Musk to see whether he will take decisive action or continue allowing West’s presence on X.
