Several areas in the country are expected to experience dangerous heat index levels today.
According to PAGASA, the “danger-level” heat index ranges from 42°C to 51°C.
Because of this, prolonged exposure to extreme heat may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
A heat index of 44°C may be experienced in Laoag, Ilocos Norte; Camiling, Tarlac; Sangley Point in Cavite City, Cavite; Cuyo, Palawan; Roxas City, Capiz; and Dumangas, Iloilo.
Meanwhile, 43°C is expected in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Aparri, Cagayan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Cubi Point in Subic Bay, Olongapo; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
Areas expected to record a 42°C heat index include NAIA in Pasay City; Infanta, Quezon; Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur; and Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
The agency continues to remind the public to take precautions against extreme heat.
PAGASA advised people to watch out for symptoms such as headaches, muscle cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
The agency also reminded the public to follow simple protective measures such as drinking plenty of water, staying in cool areas, and wearing comfortable clothing.
