A 40-year-old Colombian man was caught attempting to smuggle cocaine hidden under his wig at Rafael Núñez International Airport while en route to Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Authorities intercepted the suspect after a body scanner detected suspicious sachets concealed beneath his artificial hairpiece. A viral video shows security officers cutting through the wig, revealing packets of cocaine valued at approximately C$14,000 (about €10,000 or P600,000).
Officials said the man had shaved his head to make space for the hidden drugs, believing he could bypass security undetected. However, advanced airport screening equipment uncovered the smuggling attempt.
Colombian authorities noted that drug couriers continue to devise new methods to transport illegal substances, but security measures are constantly evolving to intercept contraband. Colombia remains a major player in global drug trafficking, supplying over 60% of the world’s cocaine.
The suspect is now in the custody of the Attorney General’s Office, facing charges of drug trafficking, manufacturing, and possession of narcotics.
