CHMSU graduate tops Army officer candidate class ‘Talagilab’

A criminology graduate from Himamaylan City has emerged as the top-performing cadet of the Philippine Army’s Officer Candidate Course-Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (OCC-ROTC) Class 03 “Talagilab” 2026.

In a June 27 Facebook post, the Philippine Army Officer Candidate School (OCS) recognized P2LT Gilnove R. Olmedo of Sitio Bajay, Barangay 3, as the class’s No. 1 cadet for his outstanding performance in the officer candidate training program.

Olmedo earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminology degree from Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU)-Binalbagan Campus, where he previously served as ROTC Corps Commander. He is also a registered criminologist.

According to the OCS, Olmedo and the rest of the class’s top cadets distinguished themselves through discipline, dedication, exemplary leadership, and commitment throughout the course, exemplifying the standards expected of future officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

“They embodied the military standard for excellence and qualities that the OCS requires from the officer candidates. They truly become the pride of the OCC-ROTC,” the military institution said.

Joining Olmedo in the Top 10 are P2LT Johnnylie Grace Mangubat Florita of Bukidnon, P2LT Charmane Cuevas Cotales of Misamis Occidental, P2LT Sampaguita Samson Torres of Zamboanga del Norte, P2LT Degie Bayonas Abad of Bohol, P2LT Princess Pascua Sumaoang of Tarlac, P2LT Edjeff Andalet Banggalao of Kalinga, P2LT Demi Colanang Crampatanta of Zamboanga del Norte, P2LT Arjay Collado Lomioan of Abra, and P2LT Steven Almoguera Seminiano.

OCC-ROTC Class 03 “Talagilab” is the counterpart of OCC Class “Gundayaw,” whose members are also set to graduate on Saturday, July 4.*
