Senate President Alan Cayetano on Tuesday assured the public that the Senate would act “forthwith” on the Articles of Impeachment filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Cayetano said there would be no delay in the handling of the impeachment complaint once it reaches the Senate.
According to the Senate leader, he had already consulted former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III regarding the process.
Cayetano said Sotto advised him to simply follow the established procedure and refer the matter to the Senate Committee on Rules.
The Senate president stressed that the chamber would strictly comply with both the law and the internal rules of the Senate in addressing the impeachment case.
He emphasized that senators are “lawmakers” and not “lawbreakers,” underscoring the Senate’s commitment to observing legal procedures throughout the process.
The Articles of Impeachment against Duterte have become one of the most closely watched political developments in the country, drawing public attention over how the Senate would handle the complaint.
