Vice President Sara Duterte has been cleared of multiple charges after the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office dismissed the complaints filed by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
In a 13-page resolution, prosecutors stated that the complainant, QCPD Medical and Dental Unit Chief Van Jason Villamor, failed to present sufficient evidence against Duterte and Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) Chief Colonel Raymund Dante Lachica.
The dismissed charges included direct assault, disobedience to authority, and grave coercion. The resolution cited nine factual bases, concluding that the complaints did not meet the legal standards required to establish criminal liability beyond reasonable doubt.
The case stemmed from an incident in which Duterte intervened while QCPD personnel were assisting an ambulance transferring her Chief of Staff, Atty. Zuleika Lopez, to a hospital.
This legal victory for Duterte puts an end to what her camp described as an unfounded attempt to tarnish her reputation.
