Carnapping suspect killed in shootout with Davao Police

A carnapping suspect, identified as alias Morsid, was killed in a shootout with Toril Police Station personnel early on February 15, 2025, in Binugao, Toril, Davao City

Morsid was intercepted by combined forces from Toril Police Station and Bansalan Police Station after authorities launched a dragnet operation following a victim’s report that their blue “bao-bao” (tricycle) had gone missing from a mall parking lot in Toril.

The suspect was tracked while traveling toward Cotabato, with police responding swiftly to the reported theft. Investigators had been monitoring Morsid’s group due to previous carnapping incidents in the area.

PMaj. Bautista, leading the operation, emphasized that while human rights remain a priority, officers must also protect themselves from immediate threats.

“We will not allow our officers to be harmed by any unscrupulous individual. When danger is clear and present, we are bound to protect the lives of our men,” he said.

Authorities continue their investigation into other possible members of the carnapping group.
