Officials of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) remain hopeful that the national Congress will soon be able to set a date for the BARMM Parliamentary Elections.
It can be recalled that the long-awaited redistricting law has already been enacted.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier said that while it welcomed the passage of the law, there is no longer enough time to hold the elections on March 30.
In an interview with Brigada News FM Manila, Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA)-BARMM Deputy Floor Leader Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo said that a proposed bill has already been filed in the Senate to set a new election date.
He added that a counterpart measure will also be filed in the House of Representatives this week.
When asked about the most appropriate timing for the elections, Sinarimbo stressed that they should be held within the year.
