Radio commentator Erwin Segovia, known on-air as “Boy Pana,” was shot dead early Monday, July 21, just hours after delivering what would be his final broadcast in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.
His last words on-air were, “Consummatum est o Natapos na.” He was ambushed around 7:00 a.m. by unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen while riding his own motorcycle along Bosco, Barangay Mangagoy.
Police in Bislig City have launched an investigation into the killing and are still working to determine the identities and motive of the suspects.
This was not the first attempt on Segovia’s life. Nineteen years ago, he survived a shooting in Strella, also in Mangagoy. He later moved to Kiamba, Sarangani Province, and eventually Trento, Agusan del Sur, before returning to Mangagoy to continue his radio work.
Following the attack, Carla Lopez-Pichay announced a ₱1 million reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.
Authorities have yet to release further updates.
